The City of Rocks State Park gets its name from the incredible volcanic rock formations found here. The park is a mile from the scenic Chihuahuan Desert Region of southwest New Mexico, and stands at an elevation of 5,200 feet. The geological formation is made up of large, sculpted rock columns and pinnacles rising as high as 40 feet, and separated by paths or lanes resembling streets. After years of natural erosion, the formations have an almost other-worldly appearance, filling the landscape like towers against the beautiful New Mexico sky. 

The Quail Run Campground is located in Elephant Butte, New Mexico and is a great spot for a quiet getaway from the hustle and bustle of the state's big cities. Nearby are great local restaurants like Amici's Pizza, Casa Taco, and eateries among the shops at Wiregrass. The campground is relatively close to the Rio Grande river, so take a day trip out there to visit the marina and go sailing. The area is also perfect for hiking, biking and great sight seeing. Look up on any night to enjoy stargazing or a spectacular New Mexico sunrise. 

Surround yourself with the mixed evergreen/aspen forest of the Aspen Group Campground, located in the Lincoln National Forest, New Mexico. Able to accommodate groups of up to 70 people, this is a popular spot for visitors wanting to experience this lush New Mexico park, as well as the charming village of Cloudcroft. Look forward to some great picnicking and hiking opportunities along the trails at Alamo Peak and Stark Peak. The most popular hike is the Osha Trail, which is a 2.5-mile loop. You can also expect excellent shopping and dining options down in the village. The Oliver Lee Memorial State Park, at the foot of the mountains, is worth a visit to see a restored 19th century ranch house and explore the flowering oasis of Dog Canyon.

The Club Cove Campground is located at the Elephant Butte Lake State Park in New Mexico. Campers can look forward to acres and acres of gorgeous southwestern terrain, and a lake ready for all the water sports you could imagine. Get ready for swimming, fishing, water skiing, paddle boarding, kayaking and canoeing, and be sure to hang around at dusk to catch one of those iconic New Mexico sunsets. Hiking and biking are also popular activities at this campground, so be sure to pack well for the fun! A relatively short drive from the park will take you to restaurants, museums and other great attractions. 

Elks Lodge 413 is for Elks only and is a great place to relax or go out and explore nearby attractions. The park is just a short drive from Silver City, so when you're ready to explore, there's plenty to see and do. Get ready for museums, historical buildings, the Ancient Indian Ruins, Gila Cliff Dwellings, the Spirit of the Mountain Scenic Byway and a host of other great attractions. Silver City is also known for buzzing with culture and creativity so be sure to visit of one of the art galleries or try a bite from one of the local culinary hotspots. 

The Stallion Campground is located at Caballo Lake State Park, a beautiful New Mexico oasis. Enjoy water activities such as wind surfing, sailing, kayaking, canoeing, kite boarding, swimming and fishing. Looking for land activities? This spot is popular for its excellent nature trails for hiking and bird watching, climbing and horseback riding.

The Pancho Villa park is home to numerous historical exhibits from the battle that happened at this small town in 1916. History buffs and New Mexico enthusiasts alike flock to this site to see the museum which is free for campers, and to experience the remnants of this crucial part of the Mexican- American war. The park is also only a few miles from the southern border, so if you cross, be sure to visit the Pink Store. If you like the iconic desert terrain of New Mexico, you'll especially love this park, and the sights of those beautifully red sunrises and sunsets the area is known for.

The Lost Canyon Campground is located in the Elephant Butte Lake State Park is one of the most central to the lake of all the campgrounds in the area. Campers here can enjoy a plethora of great activities such as water skiing, fishing, swimming, boating, canoeing and paddle boarding, as well as enjoy local attractions in the city. Nearby is a visitor center (on Broadway) with tons of helpful guides so you can get the most out of your stay. There's also a museum for visitors to peruse and a ghost town nearby. Also be sure to look up at night to see the spectacular light show iconic of the southwest.

The South Highlands Campground is located in the Elephante Butte Lake State Park and is in a secluded area perfect for an escape into the serene southwestern landscape. Explore the gorgeous desert vistas that are mixed in with hills and lakes, for a great outdoor adventure. Make your way down to the lake for water skiing, paddle boarding, fishing and of course swimming, and strap on your hiking boots to hit the trails on foot or bike. Framed against the Caballo Mountains, the lake boasts spectacular and colorful views as well as a variety of water activities such as boating, swimming, boating, kayaking, canoeing and fishing. Tired of the water? Visitors and locals alike enjoy land sports such as biking, hiking, horseback riding, birding and picnicking. Additionally, you can expect excellent winter time skiing, jet skiing and wind surfing, and with the iconic New Mexico sunrises and sunsets, be sure to bring your camera to take some great shots.

Located near the serene Caballo Lake and mountain ranges is the Caballo Lake RV Park. If you're looking for a quiet getaway in an idyllic desert setting, you'll especially enjoy your time at this park. Look forward to a quick walk to the beach at dawn or visiting the gold mines of ghost town nearby. Unlike other parks, Caballo Lake RV Park doesn't have a nearby train creating noise pollution, which serial visitors to the lake especially appreciate. They also love the hot mineral baths near the site.

The North Highlands Campground is located in the Elephant Butte Lake State Park and is a great place for a quiet escape into the beautiful vistas of New Mexico. Look forward to plenty of hiking and biking opportunities, plus lots to do at the lake. Bring your gear for paddle boarding, water skiing, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, fishing and boating. There's also an insane expense of clear skies above for stargazing so be sure to set aside at least one evening to look up at the iconic New Mexico light show. 

With RV and tent sites available near the Caballo Lake, Appaloosa Campground is one of several campgrounds in the area. Popular especially among RVers who frequent the area, the campground is great for fishing at the lake, boating, wildlife viewing and of course, some pretty majestic New Mexico sunrises and sunsets. Walk to the nearby park office to chat with the rangers about the best canoeing, horseback riding and hiking spots in the area, and be sure to spread a blanket at least one evening to enjoy the cool twilight weather. The area is especially known for kite boarding and wind surfing so look forward to that!

Located in the Lincoln National Forest is the Slide Group Campground which can accommodate up to 90 people. Surrounded by mixed evergreen and aspen, this site is known for immersing visitors in a primitive wildlife environment where they can pause and appreciate nature. Access to the National Recreation Rim Trail can be found at the site, and there are plenty of amenities to ensure that groups can enjoy social events and plan group activities with ease. Besides hiking and picnicking, most campers stop by the village of Cloudcroft for supplies, shopping and fine, local dining. Don't miss out on that!
