Less than a mile from Cloudcroft is the Lower Fir Group Campground in the Lincoln National Forest reserve. As you'd expect, there's plenty to do in this area: take your family on hiking and biking expeditions through the dense, gorgeous forestry of the campground, and go on plenty of picnics while you're there. You can also walk to Cloudcroft for some shopping, entertainment and interaction with the friendly locals.

The Three Rivers Petroglyph Site is the biggest collection of petroglyphs in the nation, and is a great place to immerse yourself in the history and rich culture of the southwest. Hikers prepare for some challenging and scenic trails, and great views of the Sierra and Tularosa Basin. The nearby trading post is also world-class, offering campers a pick of the best local arts and craft, each unique piece holding some historic or cultural significance. Fall in love with the southwest at this park, where there's so much of nature to explore. Hike the gorgeous desert vistas, or mountain bike the hills around the campground. The Pancho Villa park is home to numerous historical exhibits from the battle that happened at this small town in 1916. History buffs and New Mexico enthusiasts alike flock to this site to see the museum which is free for campers, and to experience the remnants of this crucial part of the Mexican- American war. The park is also only a few miles from the southern border, so if you cross, be sure to visit the Pink Store. If you like the iconic desert terrain of New Mexico, you'll especially love this park, and the sights of those beautifully red sunrises and sunsets the area is known for.

The Holloman AFB FamCamp is used for military professionals and is located within the New Mexico Air Base. The park is safe and well-known for its easy access to sights like the White Sands National Monument, Space History Museum, CLoudcroft, Pistacio Farms, Ruidoso, White Sands Missile Range and the Organ Mountains. If you like history, you'll have a blast at this campground. 

The Paseo Del Rio Campground is located in the Elephant Butte Lake State Park, and is perfect for a long escape into the natural terrain of the southwest. far from the crowds with plenty of open space, this park offers visitors the chance to spread out and roam on foot, ATV of bike. Go to the lake to enjoy excellent fishing, boating, water skiing or just an easy-going afternoon on a paddle board. There's also plenty of clear, open skies for stargazing and of course, don't be shy about soaking in those iconic New Mexico sunrises and sunsets. 

Located in the Lincoln National Forest, New Mexico are the Bluff Springs Dispersed Campsites. It is a partially developed picnic area with dispersed campsites with spectacular mountain views, and beautiful forestry all around. Take one of the trails around clumps of wildflowers, and be sure to catch at least one sunset or sunrise; have a camera handy! There's also a few small waterfalls within the park so keep your eyes open for that! Most visitors to this site go off to the Cloudcroft village to take advantage of the local sights and do some gift or food shopping. Maybe you'll be in time for one of the three annual festivals that take place in Zenith Park in the village.

Set against the breathtaking Sacramento Mountains, the Oliver Lee Memorial park features a historic ranch house, quiet camping in the Chihuahuan Desert, and the unique oasis of pools of water under the cottonwood trees of Dog Canyon. Visitors can look forward to a short walk on the Riparian Nature Trail or a challenging hike up the Dog Canyon Trail, as well as acres and acres of beautiful desert vistas. Picnicking and wildlife viewing are also popular activities at this site. Open all year round, park facilities include: water, group camping, electricity, restrooms, showers and dump stations.
