The New River: Nature’s Playground Flowing just minutes from downtown Lansing—and directly accessible from our RV campground—the New River is one of the oldest rivers in North America and a designated National Wild and Scenic River. Despite its name, the New River is ancient, winding peacefully through the North Carolina high country. Guests can enjoy convenient, easy access to the water for launching canoes, kayaks, rafts, and other water toys right from the campground. The river offers ideal conditions for canoeing, kayaking, tubing, and fishing—especially for smallmouth bass and trout. Its gentle flow and shallow waters make it accessible for all ages and experience levels. Along the riverbanks, you’ll find wildflower meadows, soaring hardwoods, and abundant bird life, creating a perfect backdrop for both adventure and relaxation. Most riders start in Abingdon and enjoy a scenic downhill ride to Damascus, where several bike shops offer convenient rental services. These shops typically provide shuttle transportation to the Abingdon trailhead, allowing you to ride back to Damascus where you started. Fancy Gap Cabins and Campground is open for the 2022 season from April 1 to November 1. We are the perfect place to relax, unplug and refresh with family and friends while you explore the iconic Blue Ridge Parkway. Choose how you stay. We offer:  • 13 (four pull through and nine back in) full hookup RV sites • 6 one-room camping cabins • 5 tent sites with water and electric • 8 motel rooms We are situated on 22 acres of rolling hills and woods with mountain views. There is free Wi-Fi that was upgraded in 2021. The bathhouse has 5 private bathrooms with showers. We are close to the Blue Ridge Music Center, Mabry Mill and all of the beauty, shopping, wineries, hiking, cycling and paddling southwest Virginia has to offer.  Amenities & Activities Campsites include Wi-Fi, picnic tables, fire rings and charcoal grills. Guests and their pets can explore our walking trails and take advantage of hiking, hunting, fishing, kayaking, and canoeing in the area. For motorcyclists and bicyclists, FGCC is a perfect stop along the Blue Ridge Parkway. We heve laundry facilities. Active or retired military receive a 10 percent discount as well as groups with five or more reservations. If you book seven nights, pay for six.
