At an over 6,100 foot elevation and nestled between two high sandstone bluffs is the Villanueva National Park. Visitors especially love to hike the various trails, so get ready to explore the gorgeous forestry that climbs up the bluffs and runs through the canyon. The Coyote Creek State Park is located an hour east of Taos, and is nestled in the Sangre De Cristo mountains. Just beside a meandering stream, campers can enjoy hours of fly fishing, as well as the sights and sounds of a flourishing waterside oasis that's enclosed by spruce and pine. Eagle Nest Lake State Park is located in Eagle Nest on the Enchanted Circle Scenic Byway. Expect a stunning landscape with the incredibly high mountains of the Moreno Valley. The lake is regularly stocked with trout and salmon, and visitors can look forward to ice fishing in the winter. At an 8,300 foot elevation, the campground enjoys mild weather conditions and fresh breezes. As such, fisherman, boaters, campers, hikers and wildlife enthusiasts are commonplace at the park, and an abundance of animals make Eagle Nest Lake an ideal location for wildlife viewing.

Located near Eagle's Nest on the scenic Enchanted Circle Byway is Cimarron River, home of the Cimarron Canyon State Park. The area is famous for its majestic trees, and dense forestry.
