The Palomino Campground is located at Caballo Lake State Park and is a beautiful, quintessential New Mexico spot. Framed against the Caballo Mountains, the lake boasts spectacular and colorful views as well as a variety of water activities such as boating, swimming, boating, kayaking, canoeing and fishing. Tired of the water? Visitors and locals alike enjoy land sports such as biking, hiking, horseback riding, birding and picnicking. Additionally, you can expect excellent winter time skiing, jet skiing and wind surfing, and with the iconic New Mexico sunrises and sunsets, be sure to bring your camera to take some great shots.

Adjacent to the Malpais Lava Flow is the Valley of Fires recreation Area. Travelers love this park because from a distance, the hardened lava flows appear barren, but a hike around the formation will reveal a variety of flowers, cacti, bushes and trees common in the Chihuahuan desert. The area is also known to be buzzing with wildlife. Look forward to barberry sheep, bats, mule deer, road runner, great horned owls and a plethora of other bird species uncommon in other parts of the state. Enjoy the fully accessibly Malpais Nature Trail, horseback riding and picnicking.

At an elevation of over 7,000 feet, the Lobo Canyon Campground is perfectly situated for excellent picnic-friendly weather. Enjoy time spent with family and friends, surrounded by lush ponderosa, juniper and pinion and plenty of shade. Enjoy hiking the interpretive trails and biking among the hills, but be careful not to intrude on sacred Indian territory that will be marked off. 

Datil Well Campground is located at one of the 15 wells that are along the old Magdalena Livestock Driveway. The area includes 3 miles of hiking trails in piñon-juniper and ponderosa pine woodlands, with scenic views of the San Augustin Plains. The trail and vistas also offer an occasional glimpse of wildlife in a quiet setting. Enjoy picnicking along the small spots of leveled land, and be sure to look up at twilight to see the stars come out in full brightness.

Valle Tio Vinces Campground is located in Datil, New Mexico, and is well-known for acres and acres of gorgeous green mountain ranges, tall trees and plateaus ideal for picnicking and enjoying group sports events. Visitors can also look forward to beautiful trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding.

Located near the serene Caballo Lake and mountain ranges is the Caballo Lake RV Park. If you're looking for a quiet getaway in an idyllic desert setting, you'll especially enjoy your time at this park. Look forward to a quick walk to the beach at dawn or visiting the gold mines of ghost town nearby. Unlike other parks, Caballo Lake RV Park doesn't have a nearby train creating noise pollution, which serial visitors to the lake especially appreciate. The Quail Run Campground is located in Elephant Butte, New Mexico and is a great spot for a quiet getaway from the hustle and bustle of the state's big cities. Nearby are great local restaurants like Amici's Pizza, Casa Taco, and eateries among the shops at Wiregrass. The campground is relatively close to the Rio Grande river, so take a day trip out there to visit the marina and go sailing. The area is also perfect for hiking, biking and great sight seeing.
