Hunting is also popular not far from the lookout. Shooting within 150 yards of the lookout or from the road is not allowed. A variety of hiking and mountain biking trails can be found in the area.    

The Mortimer Gulch Campground is located in the Lewis and Clark National Forest and is a great, quiet spot for nature enthusiasts. The camp site offers a number of excellent opportunities for rainbow trout fishing, hiking and boating, as wells as acres and acres of heavily forested terrain for sight seeing. Keep you eyes open for elk as you explore, and be sure to enjoy the crisp, fresh air of the hilltops. Campers can also look forward to picnicking and stargazing, so be sure to pack picnic blankets for those long nights looking up at the stars!

The Lake Mary Ronan State Park is located in Proctor, Montana. This park is known as a breathtaking oasis of pine and fir trees, dense forestry and gorgeous views at the lakeside. Campers can look forward to hiking up the various hills and peaks to to capture one of those iconic Montana sunrises or sunsets, while also enjoying a quiet exploratory trip through the woods. Also be sure to take your mountain bike to really enjoy the slopes! The Salmon Lake Campground is nestled between the majestic Mission and Swan mountain ranges, and the lake itself provides a peaceful setting for your next Montana getaway. If you enjoy birding, you'll absolutely love this bar, so look forward to species like red-necked grepes, great blue herons, bald eagles and osprey. Neighbored by heavily wooden and the Wood Creek, this campsite is perfect for early mornings journeys down to the waterside for fishing and fresh air, and long, challenging hikes through the forest. Visitors can also take advantage of canoeing, kayaking, boating and swimming, as well as clear, dark skies for stargazing. 

The Swan lake Campground is located just across from the lake and is newly renovated with paved campsites. Visitors can look forward to gorgeous views from the hiking and mountain biking trails, as well as plenty of trout fishing at the lake. Campers can also expect other water sports such as water skiing, boating, canoeing, kayaking and swimming. There are also numerous picnic tables, so get ready for quiet, peaceful picnics along the waterside.
