The City of Rocks State Park gets its name from the incredible volcanic rock formations found here. The park is a mile from the scenic Chihuahuan Desert Region of southwest New Mexico, and stands at an elevation of 5,200 feet. The geological formation is made up of large, sculpted rock columns and pinnacles rising as high as 40 feet, and separated by paths or lanes resembling streets. After years of natural erosion, the formations have an almost other-worldly appearance, filling the landscape like towers against the beautiful New Mexico sky. 

The Three Rivers Petroglyph Site is the biggest collection of petroglyphs in the nation, and is a great place to immerse yourself in the history and rich culture of the southwest. Hikers prepare for some challenging and scenic trails, and great views of the Sierra and Tularosa Basin. The nearby trading post is also world-class, offering campers a pick of the best local arts and craft, each unique piece holding some historic or cultural significance. Fall in love with the southwest at this park, where there's so much of nature to explore. Hike the gorgeous desert vistas, or mountain bike the hills around the campground. There's also so much stargazing to be done, so settle in at dusk to enjoy the reds and oranges of an iconic New Mexico sunset and strap in for the nighttime light show.  

Adjacent to the Malpais Lava Flow is the Valley of Fires recreation Area. Travelers love this park because from a distance, the hardened lava flows appear barren, but a hike around the formation will reveal a variety of flowers, cacti, bushes and trees common in the Chihuahuan desert. The area is also known to be buzzing with wildlife. Look forward to barberry sheep, bats, mule deer, road runner, great horned owls and a plethora of other bird species uncommon in other parts of the state. Enjoy the fully accessibly Malpais Nature Trail, horseback riding and picnicking.

The Pancho Villa park is home to numerous historical exhibits from the battle that happened at this small town in 1916. History buffs and New Mexico enthusiasts alike flock to this site to see the museum which is free for campers, and to experience the remnants of this crucial part of the Mexican- American war. The park is also only a few miles from the southern border, so if you cross, be sure to visit the Pink Store. If you like the iconic desert terrain of New Mexico, you'll especially love this park, and the sights of those beautifully red sunrises and sunsets the area is known for.

The South Fork Negrito Campground is located in Reserve, New Mexico and is surrounded by amazingly tall and lush cottonwoods. Go hiking among some of the area's most spectacular natural rock formations and desert vistas. With plenty of hills and camping, you'll never be bored by the natural terrain and will get lost in its beauty - better yet lose yourself behind the camera as your photograph the terrain. 

Valle Tio Vinces Campground is located in Datil, New Mexico, and is well-known for acres and acres of gorgeous green mountain ranges, tall trees and plateaus ideal for picnicking and enjoying group sports events. Visitors can also look forward to beautiful trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding.

The Volunteer Park Travel Campsite is military personnel only, and as you would expect, it is clean, well-managed and operated by friendly, helpful staff. With a beautiful view and relatively close proximity to Las Cruces and the White Sands National Monument, you have a lot of space and flexibility to move around and explore. Adventure through the cities of New Mexico or the gorgeous natural terrain, and return to a comfortable park filled with convenient amenities. 

The Leasburg Dam State Park is located along the Rio Grande river in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and is the ideal spot for your next southwestern excursion. Fishing is one of the most popular activities as you could imagine; so look forward to fishing from the pier and looking out at a magnificant natural terrain. You can also go kayaking and canoeing on the water, and when you're on land, enjoy great hiking and biking trails. Visitors also love to go picnicking at dusk to enjoy an iconic New Mexico sunset. Facing the Sacramento mountains to the east, the Elks Lodge 1897 is for members and visiting Elks only, and is a quiet place to get away for a few days. Visitors can enjoy golfing at a nearby golf course, the space hall of fame, the oldest zoo located in Alamogordo, the White Sand National Monument nearby, skiing, gambling, fishing and zip-lining. Surround yourself with the mixed evergreen/aspen forest of the Aspen Group Campground, located in the Lincoln National Forest, New Mexico. Able to accommodate groups of up to 70 people, this is a popular spot for visitors wanting to experience this lush New Mexico park, as well as the charming village of Cloudcroft. Look forward to some great picnicking and hiking opportunities along the trails at Alamo Peak and Stark Peak. The most popular hike is the Osha Trail, which is a 2.5-mile loop. You can also expect excellent shopping and dining options down in the village. The Oliver Lee Memorial State Park, at the foot of the mountains, is worth a visit to see a restored 19th century ranch house and explore the flowering oasis of Dog Canyon.

The Grapevine Campground is located at the Gila National Forest and is a great place for exploring the beauty and serenity of the mountainous regions of Silver City. The east and west Gila River's join to offer campers excellent opportunities to fish and relax by the waterside, and there's also plenty of trails and easy-to-maneuver areas for hiking. Visitors can also look forward to horseback riding and mountain biking, and the plethora of great attractions in Silver City. Expect to be blown away by sites such as the Spirit of the Mountain Scenic Byway, the Gila Cliff Dwellings and the museums and art galleries that dot the old historic district.
