There are also trails for hiking and biking, and wide open skies for stargazing. Be sure to look up at dawn and dusk to catch one of those iconic New Mexico sunrises or sunsets. The trees almost seem to absorb the noises around you, so look forward to a peaceful, relaxing getaway. 

Get ready for a rustic, peaceful getaway at the Sands Cove Primitive Campground, where campers can truly relax in a distraction-free space. Look forward to a gorgeous natural terrain and a cove that's ready to be fished, and equally as great for paddle boarding and kayaking. There's also some beautiful and not-too challenging trails for hiking and biking, and if you get caught out at dusk, prepare for the spectacular light show of a New Mexico sunset.

The Brushy Point Campground is located at the Heron Lake State Park, and is set among the picturesque tall pines of northern New Mexico. Designated as a "quiet lake," boat operators cannot get up to wake-speeds, making it an excellent location for paddle-crafts liek canoes and kayaks. Get on the lake surface to enjoy a peaceful and easy-going float on the lake, and be sure to cast a few lines to catch record-sized trout and kokanee salmon. Ice fishing is very popular during the winter, as is cross-country skiing. During the warmer months, be sure to hike, bike and picnic your way around the lake, taking in the beautiful natural terrain as you go. 

Lose yourself in the tall pines of the Little Oso Primitive Campground at the Heron Lake State Park in New Mexico. The lake is designated a "quiet lake," so boat operators cannot ride at wake speeds. As such, get ready for some peace and quiet during your next vacation, and excellent conditions for kayaking, paddle boarding and canoeing. And of course, enjoy great fly fishinf of trout and salmon, all against the gorgeous mountain backdrop of the lake. Also enjoy hiking, biking and winter sports such as cross country skiing and snow boarding. 

There are 19 primitive campsites at Windsurf Beach and Arboles Point, and are the perfect spots for a fun tenting trip out ini the gorgeous waterfront  areas. The sites are ideal for small RVs and tents, and are open year round but cannot be reserved so the off-season is the best time to head over there! The sites are right by the water, and with wide open spaces and plenty of gorgeous trees and clear skies, it's a photographer's paradise. Get ready for some stellar scenic viewing, hiking, biking, sunset viewing, fishing and stargazing. The sites are in a relatively remote location, so be sure to pack everything you'll need for a fun and distraction-free stay, but there is a post office, marine store and country store just a short drive from the park. The Willow Creek Campground is located at the Heron Lake State Park in New Mexico and neighbors Santa Fe. It's the perfect spot for fresh air and acres and acres of gorgeous forestry and southwestern beauty. Enjoy fishing trout and salmon, and since the lake is a designated "quiet lake," you can also look forward to peaceful canoeing, kayaking and paddle boarding. Hiking is also very popular at this site, but don't forget your bike if you want to experience the trails just a little bit differently! You can alos make a day trip to Santa Fe or Albuquerque, so plan to catch the balloon festival if you can. It's a real treat. 

Abiquiu Lake is located in northern New Mexico and is known to offer some of the area's finest fishing opportunities. Look forward to a 5,200 acre lake surface, and an amazing panoramic view of Flint Mountain. You can also catch glimpses of pine, sage and and juniper among colorful rock formations, so be sure to bring your camera! There's an abundance of attractions in the area including: the Georgia O'Keefe Museum, a Ghost Ranch, San Pedro Wilderness, Bandelier National Monument and the city of Santa Fe.
