The Raton KOA is a great stopping point on a road trip between Colorado and New Mexico. There are 19 primitive campsites at Windsurf Beach and Arboles Point, and are the perfect spots for a fun tenting trip out ini the gorgeous waterfront  areas. The sites are ideal for small RVs and tents, and are open year round but cannot be reserved so the off-season is the best time to head over there! The sites are right by the water, and with wide open spaces and plenty of gorgeous trees and clear skies, it's a photographer's paradise. Get ready for some stellar scenic viewing, hiking, biking, sunset viewing, fishing and stargazing. The sites are in a relatively remote location, so be sure to pack everything you'll need for a fun and distraction-free stay, but there is a post office, marine store and country store just a short drive from the park. The Soda Pocket Campground is located in Sugarite Canyon, New Mexico and is surrounded by exquisite, blooming wildflowers. These wildflowers pop up among the beautiful hiking trails, amphitheater and nearby lake. The area is known for its thriving fauna as well, so keep an eye out for hummingbirds and deer while you're there. With the lake nearby, take advantage of water sports such as cruising, swimming, kayaking and of course, plenty of fishing. And at the end of a long day, look up at the sky for the stargazing New Mexico visitors can't get enough of.

Known for its excellent hiking opportunities, the La Laja Campground is on Heron Lake State Park. Also enjoy water sports such as canoeing, kayaking and boating as well as cross-country skiing during the winter months. With such a breathtaking landscape around the lake, campers can also look forward to landscape and wildlife viewing. 

The Willow Creek Campground is located at the Heron Lake State Park in New Mexico and neighbors Santa Fe. It's the perfect spot for fresh air and acres and acres of gorgeous forestry and southwestern beauty. Enjoy fishing trout and salmon, and since the lake is a designated "quiet lake," you can also look forward to peaceful canoeing, kayaking and paddle boarding. Hiking is also very popular at this site, but don't forget your bike if you want to experience the trails just a little bit differently! You can alos make a day trip to Santa Fe or Albuquerque, so plan to catch the balloon festival if you can. It's a real treat. 

The Elk Run Campground is located in El Vado Lake, New Mexico and is a popular spot for outdoor enthusiasts. Be sure to bring your reel for excellent trout and salmon fishing, and your gear for paddle boarding, cruising, kayaking or just plain swimming. Campers enjoy this sit particularly for its fresh, crisp air and gorgeous views of the valley below. It's also great for hiking and mountain biking so don't miss out on that as well as the winter sports made popular by the mountains slopes. Look forward to snow boarding, skiing and sledding, and on those clear, New Mexico nights, expect a spectacular opportunity to stargaze. 

The Rio Bravo RV Park is located in Pilar, New Mexico and is great for its proximity to nearby attractions. Take a day trip Taos or Santa Fe and enjoy the southwest culture and historical beauty of these towns, plenty of great local dining, festivals and shopping. Near the park, campers can enjoy the quiet and serenity of bighorn sheep country, as well as breathtaking views around the various hiking trails. 

The Eagle Gem RV Park is located near the Eagle Nest Lake, New Mexico, and is popular for water sports and sight seeing. Bring your bike and hiking shoes to explore the trails and un-chartered desert plains, and for some waterside fun, bring your poles for an excellent fishing opportunity at the lake. Visitors can also enjoy canoeing, kayaking and boating, and some stellar views at the sky at sunrise and sunset.

Located near Eagle's Nest on the scenic Enchanted Circle Byway is Cimarron River, home of the Cimarron Canyon State Park. The area is famous for its majestic trees, and dense forestry. Visit the park to enjoy fresh, crisp air, exquisite views and interesting geological features.
