Hilton Head Island RV parks and campgrounds exist both on an island as well as the mainland, north of Savannah. Some of the best camping in South Carolina is in this area, which says a lot since there is a lot of fantastic camping all over the state.

Hilton Head is an extremely popular summer destination, but the area does stay pretty active year-round due to the year-round, fair-weather climate. It’s close enough to Savannah, Georgia to be considered bedroom community, and it’s only a few gorgeous miles north to Charleston and Francis Marion National Forest. The area has many tent campgrounds, so it is important to be sure that your motorhome is welcome before attempting to check in.

If you’re looking to stay close to Hilton Head and have plans to explore coastal Georgia and South Carolina, Savannah National Wildlife Refuge is your best bet. It straddles the state border just north of Savannah. Drive, hike, bike, or paddle your way around the nearly 30,000 acres of protected wilderness and keep your eyes peeled for rare birds and swamp critters who make their homes here. For the beach bums in your crew, head to Wassaw National Wildlife Refuge, southwest of Savannah, where, interestingly, there is not much wildlife. But there are beaches and sand dunes. Closer to Hilton Head is the Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge, where gators, seabirds, and deer make their homes among the many miles of protected tidal wetlands and salt marshes.

Around town there are many world class golf links, as the golfer in your party is probably aware. Just be sure to call ahead since private golf clubs are popular in these parts. If you’re a fan of lighthouses you’ll need to make your way to the Harbour Town Light, which also has a history museum.
