About Jacksonville

Jacksonville, part of the First Coast region of northern Florida, is the state’s largest city by population. Florida’s First Coast was originally colonized by European settlers. Families looking for the most excitement in town have less than a 10-mile drive from downtown Jacksonville to one of the best water parks around. Folks go to Shipwreck Island Waterpark to enjoy several water slides, water falls, water cannons, plus non-water attractions like a roller coaster, laser tag, and go-karts.

There may be just one RV park near downtown, but there are more than a dozen Jacksonville RV parks scattered in every direction, including two coastal and riverside campgrounds.

Campgrounds around First Coast are close to popular attractions like the Jacksonville Naval Air Station (or NAS Jacksonville) and Lake Jacksonville. Also known as NAS Jax, the military airport is a working base for more than 20,000 active-duty and civilian personnel.

Located a few miles southwest of Jacksonville is the city’s main water source, Lake Jacksonville. The 1,300-acre manmade lake was established in 1957 and is just one of the places visitors and Jax locals go for fun and relaxation.

Campers staying at one of the many Jacksonville campgrounds or RV parks near Jacksonville can easily find plenty of outdoor or cultural fun. The city is known for its exceptional waterways, including Neptune Beach, Atlantic Beach, and Jacksonville Beach. There, rent a kayak, paddleboard, or surfboard and enjoy the mostly gentle breakers and great views. Some of the best saltwater fishing spots are located here as well. Just cast off of any number of area bridges, jetties, and piers. Guided eco-kayak tours and surfing lessons are also available by reservation.
