About Stony Plain
Stony Plain is a town in Alberta, Canada. It is located 45 km west of Edmonton and 15 km east of the Saskatchewan border. In the 2016 census, Stony Plain had a population of 7,472. It is bordered by the hamlet of Meadowlark to the south and Hinton to the west. The town is situated at an elevation of 1050 m (3327 ft) above sea level.
Stony Plain is known for its many painted murals representing various periods in Canadian history. The largest mural, by far, is in the town's downtown; it depicts the fur trade era.
The town has been adopted as the hometown of "Anne Shirley", one of Canada's most famous literary characters. The adoption was partly because Lucy Maud Montgomery's stepfather was a Presbyterian minister in Stony Plain for some years.
The town is surrounded by mixed-grass prairie and aspen parkland to the south, east, and north of the town site.

From Edmonton: About 100 km south of Edmonton on Highway #2, turn west (left) onto highway #41 at the traffic lights in Sherwood Park. This road turns into 43rd avenue in Stony Plain.
