About Camrose
Named in 1978, Camrose is the capital city of the province of Alberta. It is centrally located in the province and was established as a major commercial and administrative center with a large railway yard. In more recent years, it has grown into one of Canada's fastest-growing cities with its population projected to be over 60 thousand by 2040.
The city enjoys a diverse economy that includes education, health care, and manufacturing at its core. There are many opportunities for cultural activities as well.
Attractions
Camrose is an easily accessible city of Alberta with great attractions. The largest attraction is located at the Edmonton Street Railway and Historical Museum. All Edmonton Street Railway equipment is on display, including a 1907 streetcar. It also offers short films on the history of streetcars in Camrose and a small gift shop. Camrose is home to the Leeder Farm, one of Canada's oldest farmsteads and still owned by the same family for seven generations. The Leeder Farm features the Camrose Livestock Company, a family-owned farm that sells young and old animals. The Knights of Columbia', an infantry unit that served in World War I and II is also located in Camrose. The Camrose Foundation for Health and Heritage hosts meetings and entertainment as well as a beautiful museum.
The city has numerous parks, including the 28 acre Canora Park, located on the banks of the Oldman River.
Events
The Camrose Christmas Parade is the largest event in the city. It includes floats, marching bands, horse-drawn carriages, and music groups. The parade reaches its maximum size of 50 entries at 2 kilometers before the chairmen cut it short for safety reasons. Held every year on December 5th, it has become a must-see event for many people throughout the province.
The Camrose Exhibition Grounds is a large park with multiple events throughout the year. In its closing season, the park hosts a pumpkin patch, a carousel, and an amusement ride. The park also hosts concerts and art exhibits throughout the year.
The Camrose Lions Club holds its annual fair every October. Activities for children include pony rides, an apple stand, and a petting zoo. There is also a fall festival with music on the grounds and roaming carnival rides.
Campgrounds
Camrose is relatively hospitable to campers, with a total of twenty-six campgrounds. The Oldman River Provincial Park is the largest and most popular camping area in the city, located on the Oldman River just outside of downtown Camrose. It is an easy drive from many of the city's attractions and is only a 3.2 km drive to the city center. It features a chain-link WI-FI area, two playgrounds, two wooded areas for hiking and fishing, and access to the river. There are plenty of amenities available in the park including showers, a dump station, laundry facilities, cooking devices, fire pits, and several picnic shelters with firewood for sale.
Food
There are multiple options for food in Camrose, with a selection of eateries across the city. While the downtown area is very small, there is an abundance of restaurants to accommodate guests. Some are fast-food outlets and others offer home-cooked meals with a wide selection of menu items.
Camrose is also convenient to many major highways and shopping centers, which makes it easy to find groceries and dining options. While there are no large grocery stores in the city center, there are a few options.
