About Calmar
Calmar is a small village located approximately 60 kilometers east of Drayton Valley, Alberta. It is just a couple of kilometers from Alberta’s border with British Columbia, at the mouth of the Vermilion River. Calmar has many heritage sites and beautiful natural beauty, including a picnic area and campground on the shore of Lake Elsinore.
Calmar is also a popular place for anyone looking to spend time in this part of Central Alberta. It offers primarily family-oriented activities such as snowmobile trails and nearby mountains for skiing or snowshoeing.
Outdoor Attractions
The Vermilion River is well known for its fishing and boating, with an associated campground that remains open during the summer months. The village of Calmar provides a wilderness park near the Vermilion River, where visitors can enjoy many outdoor activities while they explore the natural beauty of this region.
Another attraction in this area is Lake Louise, a freshwater lake that is approximately 40 kilometers north of Drayton Valley. Civilization in this part of Alberta can be traced back to some early settlers who were quickly followed by the construction of a sawmill on the banks of Lake Mirdja by a group of British settlers.

Events
Each year Calmar hosts several interesting events for visitors to enjoy, including the Calmar Jubilee Days. This family-friendly event features people from all over Alberta coming together for parades, street dances, children’s activities, and much more. It is held during the last weekend in June or the first weekend in July each year.
The Annual Vermilion River Fish Derby is another popular event in this area. Visitors can enjoy a variety of food, drinks, and activities. It takes place in July.
