Brooks is located in the picturesque foothills of the Rocky Mountains in southern Alberta, Canada. It's also just a short drive from the world-famous Banff National Park.

The town has a year-round population of just over 6,000 people - making it one of the smallest towns in Alberta. This small-town atmosphere offers peace and tranquility for visitors to enjoy.

The Brooks area also offers several enjoyable attractions: Famous Bow Falls Provincial Park is home to an attractive waterfall driven by a natural spring. The Crystal Glen Waterfall and Crystal Cave Provincial Park have a dramatic setting, with sarsen stones that give the impression of crystal-clear water gushing out of the ground. The Whitetail Provincial Park offers access to the foothills of the Rockies, which are covered in lush grasslands and some of Alberta's best deer hunting.

While there are plenty of recreational activities to do here, Brooks offers additional fun opportunities in other areas. The town is renowned for its beautiful scenery and events like the Brooks Jazz Festival celebrate this local heritage.

Food and Events

The famous Bow Falls are just east of Brooks, along the Bow River. Some great places to go for food and drink include the Halfway House Restaurant, the Old Dutch Café and Bakery, and the Vista Inn Pub.

The nearby town of High River is just a 45-minute drive away, where there's even more to do. High River is located along Highway 2A in southern Alberta - halfway between Calgary and Lethbridge. It's also close to the Canadian Rockies and offers more outdoor activities. It's also just an hour and 15 minutes away from the town of Canmore, which features a natural ice mountaineering center. Hunter Mountain (an alpine ski resort) can be found 20 minutes down Highway 2A and is an ideal destination to celebrate New Year's Eve.

Landmarks

The famous Bow Falls lie just east of Brooks, along the Bow River. The Three Sisters are located near a tributary of the Musselshell River, which is just outside of town.

The town's original name (originally named "Rocky Mountain" in the late 1880s) was changed to Brooks in honor of Sir Clifford E. Brooks, who was born in Wales and first gained international fame as a wood sculptor but was well known for his writings as well.

Brooks is also home to a dedicated and welcoming volunteer fire department.

Culture and History

The town's population is predominantly English-speaking, with approximately ten percent of the population speaking French as their first language. Many residents are loyal followers of the Hutterite religion. There is also a growing contingent of residents in the town who smoke, a result of migration from larger cities and towns in Canada.

Brooks is also home to a handful of native First Nations who live in a self-governing body called the Blackfoot Confederacy, which was formed in the late 1800s. The number 862 people have the right to govern themselves in many ways, including economic redevelopment. The town also has a volunteer fire department, a public library, and an urban park district. The Brooks Library is located at 38th Street West and 4th Avenue and contains over 6,000 books.

Brooks and the surrounding area offer a short but convenient drive from Calgary and Lethbridge, great outdoor activities, and lively communities that make up a truly worthwhile vacation spot.
