Welcome to Split Rock Park Campground, located on the Northwestern edge of Garretson where a small waterfall is created by a dam across the Split Rock Creek, drawing the eye and attention of all who cross the bridge into town! Split Rock Park houses both RV and tent camping sites which include 30/50 amp sites, boat launch areas that are perfect for canoes and kayaks, a small swimming area north of the dam, a beautiful view of three unique bridges, playground, fishing areas, and an old Sioux Quartzite visitor center that houses a small museum and snack area.

The Jesse James Pontoon sets sail by appointment during the summer months, showcasing the beautiful rock canyons and wildlife that is found north of the park. South of the dam is another kayak and canoe launch, which allows for travel down to Palisades State Park by water. With downtown Garretson just three short blocks away and Devil's Gulch right next door, Split Rock Park is a wonderful space to camp and play. Whether its for a short and or long term stay, we hope to see you soon!

We are open May 1st to October 31st, weather dependent.

So beautiful, so perfect, so peaceful. Loved everything about this place. We can’t wait to go back and bring our Grandson. Perfect little camping spots. Thank you for having such a wonderful place to go. ❤️

Camping area was very nice and clean. Lots of space between campsites, which is nice. When it says primitive, it means primitive. We were not able to get any service and no park wifi. There were only port-a-potties which were clean but still smelled like a port-a-potty. The scenery is great. Bring your kayak! The train was a bit annoying but didn’t run much over the weekend.

No showers. Vault bathroom was disgusting, train 3 times a night and morning. Not the best experience

Lovely small campground. This was our first time out to try camping, and we had no troubles getting our class C motorhome in and parked. Nice shady lots. Pet friendly.

There is a train very close that goes through every 2 hours or so, tent site 2 is down a semi steep hill. Over all it was a beautiful place to camp. Fishing was okay for small fish but otherwise only caught soft shell turtles and snappers. There was good shade in every site.

Bathroom facilities were filthy. There was no office open to check in. That made it super confusing. And trains go through all times of the night. Gave it a 1 star because it's a beautiful location

Camp ground was great the only issue we had was no toilet paper in the womens restroom.

Beautiful campground however there is a train that runs every hour all night long. Between the train whistle, the rumbling tracks, and the road sign dinging due to an on coming train, I think we got 2 hours of sleep total. I also think it's worth it to mention, the tent sites are on a hill and there is very limited flat space. We were lucky we brought our smaller 2 person tent instead of our 8 person one.

We stayed in the King campground. Beautiful and clean! Brand new shower house, dump and fill station had very convenient access. Park rangers were very helpful too!

Campground Response

I am glad you enjoyed your camping experience. However, I believe you may have left a review for the wrong park. Sounds like you may have stayed at Palisades State Park as they have just expanded and have a King campground section.

Beautiful park! Would give five stars, but the camping sites are a tight fit for anything over 26 foot.

Bathrooms were not cleaned or restocked during the 4th of July holiday weekend. Big no-no when there are no other shower or bathroom facilities for guests to use on site. The bathroom was a mess all weekend and we do not have a camper. They were soiled and not well kept which was a disappointment compared to other times we've stayed here. Our "neighbors" had a small dog that sat outside and barked constantly. Nobody checked in on campers at all. This campground is usually a favorite of our family but this weekend, they definitely missed the mark.

Gorgeous little spot. Nice and quiet. Great for an overnight spot while driv8ng through town. Only about 10 minutes off of the highway. Great views of the stars.

We LOVE camping and visiting Split Rock campground. We go every year. One downside, and its not the campgrounds fault, is that there is a train that comes by right next to the campground and honks their horn very loudly. It comes by multiple times a day and through the night a couple times. Super fun to watch during the day but bring ear plug for the overnight ones. A must is the Jesse James Ponton boat tour!! Extremely affordable and the tour guide is hilarious and knowledgeable. This year was $10 for adults and $5 for kids (be kind if price goes up).

Everything was great except the booking system ,- 9 failed attempts due to software issues- thank goodness for Bruce who called back on the weekend when the city offices were closed! Great customer service!

Not great! Terribly unlevel campsites. I mean, really bad. Garbage all over the campsites. The train noises were obnoxious and even though I realize you can't do much about that, you could mention it on your website so people can decide if that is something they can deal with. Also had campers that were playing music very loudly at times. Would not stay here again.

Some washouts on the roads. Beautiful quiet park. One of our favorites.
