We've camped with South Arm for many years on one of their wilderness sites. It's an incomparable experience. It's also not for the faint of heart. We've endured unexpected storms and very high winds. And we've had beautiful kayak paddling trips, and daytime swims, along with nighttime fires. My favorite feature of our trip are the loons. I've camped around loons all my life and have always been drawn to their calls, but I've never heard loon calls like I've heard on this lake. Campground staff are calm and accommodating. I know they've had some tough losses over the last couple of years. And running a campground requires so many moving parts, as well as flexibility. So, best not to be on a timeline when you go. I highly recommend South Arm Campground to anyone interested in getting out of the fray and back to nature.

Our family enjoyed our very remote campsite, and even took the deplorable conditions of the privy (such as GIANT gaping holes in the structure where it had rotted out) all in stride, and were ready to book for this year as we left. We booked a year in advance, paid our deposit, got an email early spring that our confirmation email was coming and....nothing. No email. So we called. We emailed. We sent Facebook messages, all within the window for confirming, even though the foreshadowed "confirm now" email never arrived. When we finally reached someone, she said, OOPs, we don't have you down for that site, someone else has it. She promised to have the owner call. Well, 3 months later, no site, no call, NO RETURN OF OUR DEPOSIT, even though we mailed a detailed letter with timeline, picture of the receipt, and contact information. They not only ruined our family plans for a much needed vacation for 5 kids who slogged through a year from hell, they added insult to injury by literally stealing from us and not returning the deposit. The lake was beautiful and peaceful, but to see a place treat Maine people like this? Shameful
