It does not get a five star review! The campsites were not clean and fire pits were dirty. Our garbage can had not been emptied. The caretaker’s home has two dogs who spend their day tied up and barking plus, that area, too, has alot of unnecessary trash. We have been there for several years and will not return. It is such a pretty area with a nice playground and beach area but it needs to be taken care of. My reservation through RoverPass indicated I could book a certain site but when we got there, it was taken.

It has been awhile since we’ve camped at Homme. When we drove in the grounds were mowed and everything looked really great! That was nice to see? Good job Susan.

The dam and lake were a beautiful site and it was fun to fish from the dock. The lady and gentleman in the side by side were nice and friendly. There was no clear direction of who had to pay for daily pass, where the office was located, and it was kind of expensive to camp for 2 nights. For the price you pay to camp, the daily pass should be included. The campsites should be mowed. There’s also a hornets nest brewing in the swing set post closest to the road.

The swimming area is overgrown with weeds and a third of the size it once was Besides all of the algae trapped there. The flowers are beautiful and the volleyball area is great. The public restrooms are full of dead bugs on the floor. I'm sure they don't have the help to do it all, but I hope they can do something with the swimming area. Most people took 1 look and walked away

No frills. Great internet, beautiful memorial garden, campers respect 9 pm quiet. Be advised, you have to pay an additional $7/day.

The lake and surroundings were pretty nice so why 3 stars? -We did not get our free firewood bundle as promised when booking. -I thought the site was a bit pricey, but especially with the unexpected $7 a day entrance fee. -The bathrooms were very dirty and need cleaning more regularly and I am not picky about that sort of thing at all, but when there is kids underwear, what appear to be used toilet paper on the floor it's really unacceptable. It was clear it had not been cleaned in a long time.

We love this campground because it's smaller and more private. This visit we were a little disappointed in the up keep. Grass/weeds were long, no soap in bathroom, dirty toilets and showers and bathrooms weren't cleaned all weekend. Not at all what we're used to for Homme.

Flyer or brochure with camp rules, regulations, wifi password, quiet hours etc., upon arrive would have been really nice. Campground loud and noisy until well after midnight. Manager nice, host did nothing, curious why host need when manager lives on property.

An update to my earlier post. Walsh county has contacted us & stated that they will pay for our pickup replacement window. Thank you! This is a beautiful, pristine campground, and we are eager to return!

The campground was very nice, as were the caretakers; however, right after we arrived, the grounds were being mowed on a commercial mower, which threw a rock into our pickup window, shattering it. Today I received a phone call from Park Rapids saying they had reviewed the incident & determined the mower operated was not negligent, therefore they would NOT cover the cost of replacing our window. We were parked exactly where we were supposed to be. We had to drive 5 hours home, pulling our 5th wheel, with cardboard taped into the side back seat window. They refused to take responsibility for their mishap. We will never stay at Homme Dam campground again.

Campground Response

Walsh County was always 100% committed to paying for the window. The County's insurance carrier denied the claim and the campers assummed we would not cover the cost. We reached out to the campers after we were made aware our insurance carrier would not cover the window and are paying the campers for the window.

When we spent the night there on memorial weekend the flags weren’t raised, the American flag was sited in the garbage can beside the office. And the garbage cans were all full of garbage, we couldn’t even fit trash in the can, and that was even at the pavilion sites garbage cans all full. At least the other ppl who ran it kept the place up. This older couple seem to be having a hard time keeping it up.

Campground Response

Dear Robin, my sincere apologies your weekend was upsetting! This winter was a hard one here at Homme and the flag poles suffered damage that was not able to be repaired until the ground dried and we could get the boom truck out to fix the problem, the snow melt and then the rain kept this repair from being done. It was bad judgment on my part for not informing our guests as to why the flags were not up, as far as a flag being in the garbage can I can assure you this did not happen, however I can understand why you may have thought this. We had to leave the park that afternoon to go to Minnesota, our helper was here and had taken a flag that is designed to be placed on a building, it was placed it on the box by the shed however it was not anchored down and the wind blew it down causing it to fall into one of the green baskets beside the shed, it was put back and affixed to the box. The green baskets by the shed are not trash receptacles as is the case through out the park, they are just the shells that fit around the trash cans. Being a veteran who served over 10 years in the military I can assure you that my patriotism and love of my country runs deep, if I were to be called to serve today there would be no hesitation. This being my first year here has been a learning experience and work in progress to learn and get a routine in place, with having only myself and a part time hired help who was only here during the weekend we were doing the best we could, my husband was not feeling well and was not able to lend a hand. I now have 2 other helpers who are here on the weekends and this has been a great help!! I hope you will continue to visit Homme, we take great pride in the park and want everyone to leave feeling that they can't wait to come back. Once again my sincere apologies. Susanne Blair Walsh County Park and Recreation Manager of Homme Dam.
