Established in 1917, Glacier Lodge, nestled at just below 8,000 feet on Big Pine Creek, has always been the gateway to some of the best hiking, fishing, hunting and climbing in the country. And as the new owners, we are here to help you with whatever experience you desire.

Up here, Silence. It's the first thing you hear after you take a deep breath of mountain air, filling your lungs deeply with the healthy pine scent and letting it out slowly. You can hear the sweet breeze through the pine trees and feel it's coolness on your bare skin. You see into forever, and the mountains soar toward the bluest blue sky you've ever seen. If you choose to rough it with us during the off-season, you will experience a brisk cold, howling winds and often light snowflakes covering the ground. Campfires are cozy as you sit outside and enjoy the scenery. After all, you are here to enjoy the outdoors.....right??

In 1998, an electrical fire burned the main lodge to the ground. It was a great loss for all of us. This was one of many fires that has plagued mountain resorts in years past. We are planning on rebuilding the Majestic Glacier Lodge as early as 2025. In the meantime, 8 rustic cabins, rv sites and tent sites remain open for rental and allow easy access to the beautiful high country along with

SOME GREAT INFO:

***NO USE OF MICROWAVES, COFFEE MACHINES, HEATERS, AC, or anything with a heating element at your site unless it's connected to a different power source other than Glacier Lodge. Campsites do NOT have any power.  Our resort runs off of hydroelectric energy which is power generated by moving water. For us, our hydro water supply comes from Big Pine Creek. As the creek level varies, so does our flow of power. This is the most basic AND UNSTABLE in terms of power supply due to many factors such a creek level, a block in the hydro-electric generator, weather, temp manual shut down for maintenance. There is no power to the campsites only for the 2024 season. All sites have water

 

***Our campground, while beautiful, is very rocky, curvy (thanks trees) and at a heavy incline which makes towing larger (30-35 ft) rigs without 4x4 nearly impossible***

***Our campground bathroom is rough, but has a working toilet until being upgraded at the end of the 2024 season

***No electric vehicle charging***

Pets

Pets are welcomed including cats, however dogs may not be left unattended in cabins. Dogs must be tethered or on a leash when outside the cabins at all times on Glacier Lodge grounds, but may be off leash under voice control on the surrounding trails. Pet Fee: $30.00 per pet per stay

Be sure to bring plenty of food. We ended up having to check out early after staying only one night because there were no meals available, contrary to what the website said. The only food we brought with us were snacks to take on our hikes. A real bummer. We love this place and have stayed here before when meals were available. Owners ignored my email requesting a refund of the 2nd night we had prepaid. Loved this place in the past, but will not stay here again.

My cabin was clean and well furnished with plates cups and silverware and pots and pans. One of the knobs on the stove was falling off. They have a General store but hours of operation is unknown.

I had a good experience this past weekend but a little suggestion to improve the place should be to put at least couple showers and there is an outlets around but didn't work. I was in space #6

I’m sorry to say that our cabin was in bad shape. I know that other cabins were better maintained. Our freezer worked but the fridge did not. No heat. We were told it slept 4 but only one bed was comfortable. Many areas were literally falling apart, including the shower. Glacier Lodge is a special place to us so hopefully next time we will get better cabin.

It is beautiful as always. The cabin was nice and cozy. Only down side was the smell from the septic. That needs to be fixed before any though of another lodge. But wont stop me from coming back up..

we were very disappointed in our stay. We understood that there wasn't electricity in the campground and that was fine because we have solar on the RV. But the condition of the bathroom was awful and there was no easily accessible shower. We weren't told anything about what was available upon arrival. I guess there was a shower inside the store but it wasn't very clean and it would've felt awkward to shower in a store. And the store wasn't open during the times we would have wanted to shower. It's really a shame because this is in a beautiful location, but there is trash everywhere. It looks like minimal effort has been put out to maintain this place. Some elbow grease and some TLC could go al ong way for this resort. we were supposed to stay three nights but we refused to return for the third night because the toilet was just so gross. There was no sink and no accessible shower; they had used duct tape to repair a crack in the toilet seat. Very unacceptable for the prices that they charge and despite reaching out and asking for a refund of at least one night, we didn't receive any reply. We won't be returning.

Just love this place and each time I come it seems it is caught in a time warp. Little changes. Must say the cabins are always neat and clean. New owners are doing a great job.

10 sites up a steep hill. #1 is long and relatively flat. #2 and #3 are split (tent/camper separate from parking spot next to it) and not very level. The toilet is something out of a horror movie and they didn’t bother to supply toilet paper after our first two days there. The garbage that was in the toilet room (no sink, no shower) was left there all week. The walls have holes so critters freely come and go. No one watches the property as we had several people come in and poach spots while we paid for ours. No Bear boxes. No trash receptacles in the campsite areas. A shower will cost you $7 at the general store. Sites #9 and 10 are right next to the stinky toilet room, FYI. The pond is nice and there is a play structure for kids. The grass was mowed. A property with a lot of potential, but if they don’t care about toilet paper for $55 a day…I’ll stay elsewhere. The RoverPass site and booking was ridiculous. Terrible, inefficient website.

First, even tho this is a two star review, I still wanted to thank you for actually supplying facts and not opinions! Second, yep! Our strip of a campground is...well...it is what it is!!! And nothing is level. Third, the bathroom sucks! And we are truly sorry that it wasn't tended to regularly while you were there. It normally is...but still the toilet sucks and last year a guest clogged the sink with ? and knocked it off the wall. If you are wondering why its not fixed yet...It is still clogged and the wall needs to be ripped into and the concrete has to be broken to get to the clog and also upgrade the plumbing!! It is getting completely remodeled next year and will most likely include an addition of a few token showers! To end, I'd be upset about the poaching. Quite frequently we get Big Pine Creeks campers accidentally and we have to collect $ from that host, and also we get last minute bookings desperate for a spot and they'll pay via Venmo if it's late at night. But yes, sometimes people suck and take advantage of our private, family owned, 2 employee business and "poach" our sites. If you stayed in the last couple of weeks, we were soooooooo short on help. Not an excuse, just an explanation! No bears=no bear boxes! Currently working on a solution for the trash situation! Totally agree with you about the website...hope they see this. It barely works for us too! Take care!

Place was filthy. The trash bins were overflowing, nobody was there to take care of the space and there was additional debris ands trash all over the campground. Was super sad to see they left out old oil pans filled with grease and a large barbecue and animals were just eating away at it. Wish the forrest service would red flag them and take care of this.

Thanks for the poor review, Kip. But a couple of things, Why didn't you come and tell me face to face and tell me that you had an issue? The general store is open from 9-6 daily, I would have happily worked with you on any issues or compensation. Or even grabbed a bag and get the trash myself. Sometimes it's easier to just help and be part of the solution instead of the problem... hint hint We don't have any oil pans, as we don't do any mechanical services. As far as BBQ, yes, we have a large one, and sometimes the pans(trash) are greasy, sorry if I missed some. And damn those forest animals for allowing us to camp in their home then freeloading off our leftovers.

My family and I had a great time camping. The spot was large and fit multiple tents. The fire pit was clean of any trash and the table was sturdy. You can’t beat the views of the mountains. The staff was friendly and the store and cafe prices were reasonable. Only complaint was someone vandalized the bathroom so there was no sink

While the location is stellar, with the beautiful mountains, Big Pine Creek nearby, and the Fish Pond, there were some issues. The bathroom is UNACCEPTABLE! I walked to the nearby Forest Service Campground bathrooms instead. Also, every RV ran their generators much of the day. Website is not up to date as there is no restaurant or food service. They charge extra for showers and WIFI. To be fair, storms two years ago damaged a lot of things. But hey, clean up the bathroom and put a battery operated light inside and some toilet paper!

Perfect location in easy walking distance to the trailheads. All of my stars are from that. Otherwise it is a meh campground. Bathroom was gross and had no light, no sink, no soap, no sanitizer (this was in an actual flush toilet bathroom not a pit one). They really nickel and dime you with $10 WIFI, which I thought was crazy with a $150/night group site rental. The public campsites down the road were much nicer - you are paying a crazy premium for location at a dingy campground. But the location is amazing, so just know what you are getting.

The directions are incorrect on Rober and put us on a dirt road for an hour. We made the beat of it in 4x4... called and got correct directions. The cabin is more like a remote cabin and wonderful to get away from it all. Staff very friendly and attentive. Cabins are dated and lack some items needed, but does have fridge, oven, stove, heat. Great outdoor area with fire pit. Did have a couple safety concerns... floor board broken and could fall through...extension cord behind fridge looked old and many connectors. If the floorboard and electrical by fridge was addressed would be great. Definitely would recommend as the silence was golden! Trout pond stocked as the stream is also. Never skunked while we were there.

It's rustic, for sure. I've stayed in several high sierra cabins over the last few years and it's priced accordingly and one is getting away from IT ALL at Glacier. No cell/TV . . . great!!!! I had surgery on my foot late last year so my hiking was limited this time but in the past the hiking starts a few steps from the lodge and continues UP the mountains basically as far as one wishes

We arrived Saturday around 11am and couldn’t find anyone to help us with the check in information. The store/office was closed and there was no one around. We finally found our reservation (on the RV spot but it was for tents). Anyway. Location is great if you wanna hike up to the lakes and camp close enough!

The lodge is funky, rustic yet very comfortable with indoor amenities like heat, cook stove kitchen equipment hot shower nice bedding linens and such. You are mostly paying for the convenience of being near one of the most beautiful spot on the planet, the Sierra Nevada. And the convenience of not having to camp while there so the location. The setting is stunning.
