Camp Buffalo sits in the Middle District of the Buffalo National River, one of the most popular stretches for floating thanks to reliable water levels, classic Ozark scenery and easy access points. This is prime territory for canoeing and kayaking, with long scenic floats, clear swimming holes and excellent smallmouth fishing.

Across the street, the local canoe and kayak outfitter makes river days easy and during peak season hosts live music and food. Nearby towns offer casual restaurants, local flavor and a welcoming Ozark vibe without feeling overdone.

Beyond the river, hiking is close and varied. The Buffalo River Railroad Trail can be accessed directly from the campground and follows the river on a flat, scenic route. Trail systems at Tyler Bend offer classic Ozark hikes, while overlooks like Red Bluff deliver wide views of the Buffalo below. Horseback riding nearby adds another way to explore the landscape.

The area is part of a designated dark sky zone, so nights stay dark and stars take over once the sun goes down.

Whether you’re floating during peak season or hiking in mild winter weather, outdoor adventure here is year-round. Set up camp at Camp Buffalo and make the Buffalo your backyard.
