Crane Prairie Campground

Just returned after 3 days at the campground, not the adjacent resort. Reserved site #85 in the blue loop this first time here. The campsites in this loop are cramped together with no privacy. Luckily nobody camped on either side of me. But they have wonderful lake access just a short walk away. My site had an unmarked ant colony just 15 feet from the picnic table and they are very aggressive. They have a nasty bite. Believe a pet could be injured by stepping on the colony. They shouldn't be reserving sites with these colonies. Many colonies can be seen here in various areas. A big problem. Mosquitoes weren't terrible. The mountain views lakeside are beautiful and the water was warm enough to float on. Good base camp to explore the nearby Newberry volcanic area. So a mixed review.
