My wife and I made a last minute reservation to stay at the Chick's Motel. We had not herd anything about Chick's before we arrived. We were really impressed with the helpful staff that got us checked in and settled without delay. Our room was very comfortable an larger that we expected. The bar wad lively with a great vibe and restaurant had a great menu. The servings were generous and well prepared and at a very affordable price. We would recommend Chick's to anyone travelling though the Ruby valley as a comfortable and welcoming place to stay.

Where do I start?! Don't let the outside fool you -the inside is clean and cozy! If anything, maybe an iron and a couple more hangers needed, but we made due. The staff is where it's at though! Kim (restaurant server) is a rockstar! She was delightful from the beginning and absolutely killed it (with a smile and kindness) when 20 of us arrived on Sunday morning without warning. Brad (bartender) was also super chill, nice to talk to and saved us when we needed a couple of items in a pinch! I'd take this staff over anyone working at a big hotel chain any day! Thank you so much!

Campground Response

HI Lynette, you guys were patient and kind & you guys made a potentially stressful situation really fun to help out your large group!!! I will be sure to pass on your wonderful review of our efforts and abilities. We hope to see you all again soon and if you need an iron or extra hangers they are available upon request. Laurie Stiffler, owner ( & one of your cooks that morning!) Thank you again!

The good: the room was clean and had everything we needed; comfortable bed and linens and soft towels. The bad: wet floor/carpet from an apparent defrosted refrigerator (just a guess). Otherwise, a decent, bare-bones room.

Campground Response

Hi Daniel, we had a guest pop the breaker and that affected 1/2 the rooms and we didn't discover it until after people were checking out, very sorry. Laurie Stiffler, owner

We arrived at Chicks around 4:30, told the lady at the bar that we had reserved the cabin for the night, and without a request for ID or a credit card, were given Key #5. Opened the door to the cabin that I reserved and paid for, to find that other people's belongings were in it. We went back to the bar, and said that the cabin was already occupied. So, without apology, the man gave us a key to a motel room, #4. What could we do, but stay in the motel room? No choice. On our way to our vehicle, a couple in a vehicle stopped us to chat about our hunting gear. While visiting with the couple, the man pulled out his gun and pointed it at me to show it off! WOW. We turned in early because we had an early hunting morning to look forward to, but the couple in #3 had other plans for us. We listened through the paper -thin walls as this couple had a six hour alcohol/meth-fueled 'argument' from midnight until we left at 6:30AM. I can't imagine the bruises on that woman's neck, or how many hairs are missing from her head. We got to listen to the man point his gun at the woman, fists beating on walls and headboard, as well as infidelity accusations and so many creative cuss words, not to mention the insults constantly thrown each other's way. I realize that Chicks has no control over their guests, but there was no phone number we could call to complain at 3AM - it was the bar's phone number (which was closed). Guests beware, don't stay in room 3. I can't imagine the damage those two caused. We will not return.

Campground Response

Hi Tina, we are very sad to hear of your experience. We are a very remote small town and I guess my employee got to trusting and comfortable and I want to assure you that we have done a refresher course on checking people in and protocol. I did go back and check your reservation with Rover Pass and it does come up as motel room and you were only charged for a motel room. You are correct in the fact we rent to strangers and can't possibly know who they all are but please; anyone and everyone if you ever encounter a situation like that or even think someone is being hurt or something illegal is going on please call 911!!!! We did do a welfare check on the lady in the next room and we could not see any signs of harm to her and of course they denied any incident or knowing of one. We have been in contact with our local police dept. to help us look into things further. We are also looking into having more insulation built on the common walls between rooms. The motel was built before we ever owned it and have never been told of this problem before so thank you for your information. Again please dial 911 if you even think someone is being harmed!
